With the Christmas season here before our eyes, a lot of moms are already thinking about family portraits. It can be an exciting time for some because it’s a great way to share how much your kids have grown within the year. They surely change so much! For others, it can be a stressful time especially when their children are really small. Getting one or multiple kids to smile for a picture, or even look in the same direction for that matter, can be a large feat.
Perhaps the stressful part for some moms is to plan the Christmas portrait attire, especially if she’s a working mom that already has such a busy schedule. Some choose to be matchy-matchy. A great idea is to all wear the same top color (normally white, black or red for the holidays) with a pair of jeans if you’re going for an informal look. This is a great idea, especially if mom and dad or even the grandparents are all in the same portrait sitting. Some people choose to just have the children match if it’s a family picture. There are really no rights or wrongs – just a matter of preference.
We put a new twist on holiday portrait clothing – the tutu! It makes a lovely photo prop! We have some great ideas how your daughter or daughters can wear a pretty tutu for her Christmas pictures. Hopefully this will help you take all the guesswork out of planning your upcoming picture sitting if this is the route you wish to take.
Solid Red Tutu – Wear a white tee shirt or satin blouse and pair it with a red tutu. For the hair bow, she can wear a red and white hair bow. Add some white tights and some red sparkly shoes.
Candy Cane Tutu – Wear a multi-colored red and white tutu skirt with a red top. If she has a Christmas inspired t-shirt, this is even better. Add some funky red and white stripe leg warmers for added cuteness.
Red and Green Tutu – Just like traditional Christmas colors, red and Kelly green is always a perfect choice. She’ll look as festive as can be. Add a red holiday tee shirt and red leggings or tights and some red sparkly boots or shoes. There are other variations to this look like red with emerald green (forest green), and even red, white and green.
Solid White Tutu – If you’d like more of a winter wonderland theme, go all white! A white tutu solid or embellished with pom poms or sparkly rhinestones is the winning ticket! Pair it with a white sparkle t-shirt or one that has a white snowflake pattern. Top it off with our white hair poof – just like a snowball, white tights or leggings and white shoes or boots. She’ll be cute as a button (the button on Frosty the Snowman that is).
Dr. Seuss The Grinch Inspired Tutu – For an nontraditional Christmas look, think The Grinch! An adorable idea is for her to wear a citrus green and red multi-colored tutu with a red tee shirt. You can even add some fur cuffs at the sleeves in bright neon green if you can find it to simulate his green body. Instead of a hair bow, have her wear a Santa hat!
Add some flowers, and some ribbons - truly the possibilities are endless. Just be sure to pick the color scheme of your choice. If you have multiple children, dress one in red and the other in green. Maybe dress one like peppermint (red and green), and the other girl like spearmint (green and white) and you can even add a red bow to tie the look together.
We also offer the cutest Christmas tops featuring a reindeer and other cute sayings. Order a holiday top and have her name added. How cute is that in a picture, especially when you send out Christmas cards!
Don’t forget to share your holiday portraits with us if she’s wearing a tutu! We’d love to see what you come up with!Angela S
